Low stress, optional and a lot of fun. Our group holds an annual Pinewood Derby every February/March. Unlike other scout type groups in the area, ours is a low stress and fun event. Participation is optional but we encourge all the boys to take part. For boys who may not have help available at home to make a car (or a family that does not have the tools needed), we have numerous workdays. At the workdays we have all the tools and help available to design, cut, paint, add weight and finish a car. Often, this can be done in a single workday. Additionally we have a "test day" where the boys can test race their car and make minor tweeks before the car is handed in. On Race Day, everyone is invited to attend (or watch on our live webcast) every boy will race a certain number of times (usually 4) and be awarded points. We have winners and we have losers. Trophies are handed out to the top racers and then we eat snacks and go home. Our car kit has been designed and packaged by our national organization and is very easy to shape a car from.
